"...one of the most remarkable English musicians
of the second half of the twentieth century..."

A hugely entertaining book published in 2017 to mark
the centenary of the birth of a great bass player
and inspiring man:-- now available online
                            through Orchard Street Music

Small enough to carry in your pocket (18 x 11cm, 96 pages, 13 illustrations) and full of evocative recollections of and information about a unique person:  a virtuoso on the double bass, treble viol, hurdy-gurdy, and innumerable medieval and folk instruments; a composer of strong individuality; an unforgettable wit and a liver of life to the full. It was published by Francis's family and friends as a limited edition on the occasion of his centenary, 11 April 2017, a date that was marked by a memorable concert in the Cadogan Hall in London.
Anyone interested in the "early music" movement, or the postwar English musical scene in general, will want to own a copy. Paperback, compiled and edited by Tim Crawford with Annette Isserlis and Alison Bury; includes a provisional list of Francis's compositions.

It was while based in Mallorca between 2003 and 2007) that I befriended this ex-pat English composer,
who self-identifies as "neo-tonal", and some of whose scores are available through Orchard Street Music.
